Bayside Mall, the iconic shopping centre located in the heart of the Table View and Parklands areas, has announced its plans to undergo a R352 million redevelopment project. The project, set to commence in May 2023, aims to introduce new retail offerings, a revamped food court, improved flow, and access to the centre, as well as a refreshed, contemporary look to the mall.
The retail sector has changed significantly in South Africa over the past few years, especially within the immediate catchment area. Centre Manager Aadilah Ryklief said, “With the insights gleamed from customer feedback, we aim to create a revitalized space and offering our customers can enjoy with their families.
Bayside Mall is owner-managed by Growthpoint Properties which results in an experienced and hands-on approach to management and investment, ensuring continued success of the retail asset.
The redevelopment project will address several key areas, including the introduction of more on-grade parking, the addition of access and egress points, and the provision of dedicated parking for taxis to minimize the impact on traffic in the parking area. Repositioning the main anchor tenant, Checkers, and the introduction of Shoprite to the tenant mix. By locating each on opposite ends of the centre, will provide a more balanced feel to the centre. These two supermarket anchors are scheduled to trade in their new spaces by December 2023.
The redevelopment will be rolled out in phases over approximately 18 months to ensure an easy transition for tenants and shoppers alike. Bayside Mall will be open for trade throughout the redevelopment period and plans to host an array of refurbishment specials and activities to excite, delight and thank their loyal customers for their support throughout this exciting transition.
“We believe the end result will be a quality product that all stakeholders can be proud of, and shoppers will not be able to resist,” Ryklief concluded.
